  • IUCN status: Listed
  • Habitat: Rainforest
  • Diet: Herbivore – fruit,flowers, leaves and some insects.

Spider monkeys have long limbs and a long tail with a function as a fifth limb, hence the name ‘spider’ monkey. They live high up in the trees in troops, varying from four to about 35. The tail is able to grasp and/or hold objects.

Keeper’s Secret

A unique feature of spider monkeys is that they have four fingers on each hand but no thumb!
