  • Habitat: West and central sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar – swamps and by rivers
  • Diet: Omnivore – roots, fruit, grasses, eggs, insects and lizards.

Red river hogs live in troops of four to twenty animals consisting of an adult male (boar), females and hoglets.They are declining in the wild mainly because they are hunted by farmers who resent their crops being destroyed.

Red river hoglets are born with a patterned coat for camoufl age in forest.
