SSE Airtricity Partnership

SSE Airtricity and Dublin Zoo are working together to make a positive difference to our planet

SSE Airtricity and Dublin Zoo are working together to make a positive difference to our planet. For Dublin Zoo and our visitors, this means inspiring a new generation to appreciate the natural world and make greener choices to protect it.

The Eco Explorer Trail

Supported by our sustainability ambassador Pookie, is a fun, interactive way to learn about our planet and ways to protect it. As parents and kids explore Dublin Zoo, they’ll discover 10 Eco Explorer stations which will explain sustainable choices and actions.

Meet Pookie

“Hi, I’m Pookie. I come from the Irish woodland and love exploring nature, collecting knowledge and learning how to protect the wonderful animals of our world.

I’m here to show you how we can all help our planet have a more secure future. It’s called living sustainably. This means doing things in new ways so that future generations will be able to live well too. I know it’s possible, and so does Dublin Zoo and SSE Airtricity. We’d love you to join us on our journey!”

Water Stations

It’s the small actions that can make a big difference to our planet. Throughout Dublin Zoo, visitors will find a number of Water Refill Stations. SSE Airtricity and Dublin Zoo are encouraging all visitors to the Zoo to make use of these stations as much as possible. By taking your own reusable water bottle, you’re reducing the amount of plastic, single-use bottles and cups that are thrown away, and making the right choice for a greener, healthier planet.

Visitors can find the Water Refill Stations at the following locations:

  • At the entrance to the South American House
  • Beside the Nocturnal House
  • Beside the Hippo House in the African Plains
  • Beside the white-naped mangabey house in the African Plains
