Eclipse 26: Sun, Moon and Paws
(Ideal for ages 6-12)
Join us at Dublin Zoo on Wednesday, August 12th for a wild event where the sun, moon and claws all come out to play. It’s going to be out of this world!
This is the largest solar eclipse visible from Ireland since 1999, and we’re celebrating with our resident “Sun Angels” – the meerkat as they are known in African folklore, meerkats spend much of their time looking to the sky, while the dark rings around their eyes help reduce the sun’s glare.
During this special event you’ll:
- Observe our meerkats’ behaviour in light and dark before the eclipse
- Discover their amazing adaptations and make enrichment for the mob
- Craft your own solar viewer and learn how to use it safely
- Practise using your viewer on the African Savanna
- Take home a pair of certified eclipse glasses so you can safely watch the eclipse from home when it reaches Dublin at approximately 6.10pm
- Discover the science behind one of nature’s most spectacular shows
When? Wednesday, August 12th
Time: 2pm–4pm
Your event ticket includes admission to Dublin Zoo for the entire day, and Annual Pass holders can avail of a reduced-price ticket.
Make it a BIG day out at Dublin Zoo with your ticket including:
• 400+ incredible animals
• 40+ roar-some Bricktacular sculptures
• Brand-new playgrounds
Plus, all the wild wandering, monkeying around and memory-making you can squeeze into one day.
Warning: Side effects may include saying “wow” a lot and leaving with a head full of space facts and a camera roll full of animal photos!
Don’t paws for too long—spaces are disappearing faster than the sun behind the moon.
