We are delighted to announce that following the recent announcement from Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Dublin Zoo will be open to the public from the 26th of April 2021 in a reduced capacity and under strict health and safety protocols.

After more than a year of having to open and close our gates, we are working hard to prepare Dublin Zoo to welcome back our valued visitors once more.

Animal, staff and visitor safety is paramount at Dublin Zoo and we are extremely grateful for your support.

General FAQs

  • How do I book tickets?

    Tickets to attend Dublin Zoo’s Outdoor Safari Trail must be pre-booked online in advance.

  • What date are tickets on sale?

    Tickets will be available from 11am, Thursday 22nd April on our website.

  • Do you still have to book a specific date and time?

    Yes, tickets to attend Dublin Zoo must now be pre-booked online in advance for a specific date and time. This is to ensure strict social distancing measures can be adhered to at Dublin Zoo.

  • Can I use my gift card to book a ticket?

    Yes, once you have chosen your date and time to visit Dublin Zoo, there will be an area on the online checkout to input the code from your gift card. Once accepted, the value of your gift card will be removed from your total.

  • I got a free pass when I adopted an animal, how do I use it to book a ticket?

    First off, thanks a million for supporting Dublin Zoo through our adoption programme, we really appreciate it!

    Inside your adoption pack, you will find a six-digit code – once you have chosen your date and time to visit Dublin Zoo, there will be a promo area on the online checkout to input the code from your adoption pack. Once accepted, the value of your ticket will be removed from your total.

  • Do you have a pre-sale list?

    No, we do not have a pre-sale list.

  • Is there still a one-way system in place?

    Yes, visitors will still travel through Dublin Zoo by following the one-way Outdoor Safari Trail, which reinforces social distancing.

  • What is different about my visit than before?

    Tickets to attend Dublin Zoo must now be pre-booked online in advance.

    Visitors will travel through Dublin Zoo by following an outdoor, one-way walking route which reinforces strict social distancing. Entry will be through the Annual Pass entrance.

    Internal animal houses and playgrounds will be closed to the public until further notice.

  • Is it safe to visit Dublin Zoo?

    Dublin Zoo has introduced new measures and restrictions to ensure visitor, staff and animal safety however we would encourage visitors please be mindful of current Government and HSE guidelines and public health recommendations.

    Hand sanitiser stations will be available and there will be visible signage reinforcing physical distancing, hand-hygiene, coughing/sneezing etiquette. An enhanced cleaning regime has also been implemented and all Dublin Zoo personnel will be provided with and trained in the safe and appropriate use of, relevant Personal Protective Equipment. We will rely on the personal and parental responsibility of visitors to adhere to the guidelines which have been put in place.

  • Can I buy tickets at the gate when I get there?

    No, tickets will not be sold at the gate. Tickets must be pre-booked online and email confirmation received in advance of your visit. Visitors without a pre-booked online ticket will be refused entry.

  • Who is the event suitable for?

    The event is suitable for all ages, families, couples and small groups alike. This event is wheelchair and buggy accessible.

  • I live outside county Dublin, can I still visit Dublin Zoo?

    Dublin Zoo would encourage visitors to be mindful of current Government and HSE guidelines and public health recommendations before planning their visit.

  • Where can I park?

    Lord’s Walk carpark will be open from 9.15am

  • Will I get a chance to see all of the animals at Dublin Zoo?

    Internal animal houses and playgrounds will be closed to the public until further notice.

  • How will the animals react to visitors coming back in?

    Our keeper staff are some of the best in the world and the routines they have created for the animals keep them well stimulated, even whilst the gates have been closed to the public. Whilst the animal’s routines have not changed much in the last few months, thanks to the hard work of the team, they have certainly noticed that there have been fewer people around and the return of the public will provide positive stimulation.

  • Will the toilet facilities be open?

    Yes, there will be select toilets available along the trail. These will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Please remember this is a one-way system so if you miss the toilet stop on your route you must carry on until you find the next toilet facility.

  • Will drinking water stations be available?

    Yes, there are touchless water stations available along the trail. Please bring your own bottle to refill!

  • Will the playgrounds be open?

    No, playgrounds and internal animal houses will be closed to the public until further notice.

  • If I bring food will there be an area available where I can eat it?

    There will be a very limited number of picnic tables available, placed 2 meters apart. However, we would strongly encourage visitors to eat at home before they visit Dublin Zoo in order to limit contact with public areas in line with Government and HSE directives.

  • Will the cafes be open?

    Yes, select food and beverage outlets will be available along the trail for takeaway service.

  • Will visitors be required to wear face masks?

    We ask visitors to follow HSE guidelines and wear a face covering or mask where staying 2 metres apart from people is difficult For more information, please visit the HSE website.

Annual Pass FAQs

  • Will my Annual Pass be extended for the period of closure?

    Dublin Zoo would like to offer all annual pass holders who had a valid pass on 22nd October 2020, and are within Dublin or 20km of Dublin Zoo an extension of their annual pass, reflective of the period of time Dublin Zoo is closed.* This extension will be automatically added to your annual pass.

    *Subject to terms and conditions:

    – This will not apply to annual passes that have expired prior to Thursday 22nd October 2020.
    – Your pass will be automatically extended from the date on which government travel restrictions enable you to visit Dublin Zoo.

    i.e. If you live within 20km of Dublin Zoo, your pass will be extended on the 26th of April, if you live further than 20km from Dublin Zoo your pass extension will be postponed until the date travel restrictions permit you to visit Dublin Zoo.

  • How can I purchase an Annual Pass?

    Due to unprecedented demand, we have allocated additional resources to the annual pass team and are working hard to respond to all enquiries.

    Please email annualpass@dublinzoo.ie with the subject line ‘Purchase Annual Pass’ and include your contact details in the body of the email.

  • I’m an annual pass holder, do I still have to pre-book my ticket?

    Yes, all visitors must pre-book their tickets online ahead of their visit. Annual pass holders will not be charged and can pre-book tickets here. Visitors without a pre-booked online ticket will be refused entry.

  • Will Dublin Zoo Annual Pass holders have to pre-book a ticket and will they be charged?

    Annual Pass Holders will not be charged. Please ensure that you insert the short code from your Annual Pass card into the promo box when you’re booking your tickets and the price will be removed at the checkout.

    Visitors without a pre-booked online ticket will be denied entry.

  • Will Fota Wildlife Park Annual Pass holders be charged entry?

    Fota Wildlife Annual pass holders will not be charged but must pre-book tickets here. Visitors without a pre-booked online ticket will be denied entry.
