Craigie Art Competition Winners!

Dublin Zoo had a fantastic response to the Craigie Art Competition which ran recently. There were three age categories in the competition: 4-6 years; 7-10 years; and 11 -14 years. Entries were submitted on A4 paper, and had the option of using pencils, collage or crayon.
Judges had a difficult job choosing the winners as there were so many great pictures and paintings from all age categories! The final decision was made, and the winners are:
Age 4-6:

Age 7-10:

The Craigie Prize Art Competition at Dublin Zoo which was set-up in memory of Irene Craigie. Irene Craigie, known affectionately as ‘Rene’ started work in Pet’s Corner in 1956 and retired in 1982. For over 25 years she looked after Pet’s Corner with care and devotion but her dedication and love of children was special.
Children from all backgrounds came to help with the cleaning and feeding of the animals in her care, and Rene would ensure that all of the children had something to eat, most days the children helping would have their lunch at the Zoo, prepared by Rene in the kitchen at Pet’s Corner.
In those days Pet’s Corner cared for any zoo animals in need of nursing so children who helped would have enjoyed a great learning experience.
Many of our zoo visitors today remember Rene when they themselves were children visiting the zoo.
Congratulation to all the winners!
