Dublin Zoo is joining farmers from across the land in celebrating the end of one of the wettest harvest season’s on record.
From midday on October 5th the zoo will be hosting its very first Harvest Festival to highlight all that is good about this time of the year.
There will be practical demonstrations of traditional techniques including, butter churning, spinning, weaving and hedgerow basket making at City Farm.
Visitors will be invited to celebrate the staple Irish vegetable, the potato, with a display by Agri-Aware. Visitors may also be lucky enough to spot the latest arrivals to the farm – a litter of six Kune Kune piglets.
Dublin City Libraries is organising story-telling sessions with a rustic theme and there will be lots more surprises in store including face and potato painting.
Fresh farming produce will also be on sale at a Farmers Market.
Then, if you still have time, come and see how the summer’s babies have grown and check out a couple of surprising new inhabitants in the newly refurbished reptile house.
A heap of fun and a whole lot more at Dublin Zoo this October.
