Ecology Module for Leaving Certificate (also available for Junior Cert level)
The study of an ecosystem is the main focus of the ecology module offered at Dublin Zoo. Students will have a comprehensive fieldwork report to help them understand different aspects in ecology and acquire an appreciation for the relevance of ecological studies in modern day life. Practical element includes: woodland/grassland habitat study; qualitative and quantitative study; record environmental factors- biotic/abiotic/edaphic.

Course duration: 4 hours (Leaving Cert. 2.5 hours Junior Cert.)
Genetics Module

This module is aimed at Honours Leaving Cert students who have already covered the syllabus in school, and are now ready to learn more about the modern trends in the world of genetics. This module brings the genetics course right up to-date as it keeps abreast of modern research in genetics and outlines to the students in a way that stimulates their interest.
While aspects of formal genetics will be covered this cutting-edge presentation will concentrate on the application of genetics to modern science. Topics covered include: Mutation, Evolution, Genetic fingerprinting, Genetic engineering, Adaption, Variation, Natural Selection and Species Definition.
This genetics module at Dublin Zoo is presented by popular wildlife-broadcaster, author and education consultant Eanna ni Lamhna.

Course duration: 2 hours.
Conservation Module
(CSPE, Transition & other Secondary school Years) The conservation module is designed to provoke students to reflect and discuss and understand the effects of man on the natural world. Issues covered in this zoo module include: role of the modern zoo, definition of conservation, facts on endangered species, Extinction, habitat loss etc.
Group size: 50
Course duration: 1 hours.
Environmental Awareness 'Knowing your World' (1st to 5th year)
This programme will explore the threats facing wildlife on a global scale. Topics covered include: Endangered species and extinction; Deforestation and loss of Biodiversity; Look at Irish environmental issues and Climate change.
Group size: 25
Course duration: 1.5 hours.
Art Module (1st to 6th year)
The art module looks at the zoo as haven for artistic creation and provides not only a starting point for themes which mention zoos, animals and wildlife, but can used in the much broader sense for themes like conservation, environment, architecture, exotic plants, people, places, walkways, water.the list is endless. Opportunity allowed to observe and sketch exotic animals.
