Community & Outreach
After Schools Programme
The After Schools Programme at Dublin Zoo runs one afternoon per week over 5 weeks. Prior Appointment ONLY.
Our ‘after schools' programme is specifically aimed at community building- creating a sense of community for the students as they are encouraged to work with one another, while supported and inspired by the assisting adults. The zoo is a large living classroom and provides an opportunity to open up a whole new world of adventure, curiosity and learning in a natural environment. Living animals clearly have a profound power of attraction and are a great and unique feature of zoos to create a positive experience for young people away from their everyday environment.
Peer education – a new programme aimed at post 16 years, with a passion for wildlife conservation.
Today's young people will have a important role to play in the stewardship of our shared planet, therefore the education role of zoos is to interpret living collections to attract, inspire and enable people from all walks of life to act positively for conservation. This new programme will allow young people to learn more about conservation and environmental issues and most importantly to hear of the conservation programmes that the zoos support.
